School Districts face insurmountable challenges - reducing absenteeism, continuously improving test scores, retaining talented teachers, balancing capital and operating budget needs, preserving assets and preventing property damage, and keeping facilities current with District growth or decline.  And doing all of this while creating a healthy and safe learning environment for the people who matter the most - our children.  High Performance Schools are imperative in order for our communities to thrive in the future.  Learn more about the benefits of "green schools" and how we can help you develop fiscal strategies for facility improvements now, even in these challenging financial times.  Click here to read Energy, Economy, Environment, a white paper by Keven Ward.  Keven discusses how Kansas Districts can access the American Recovery Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Stimulus Funds for "Green" High Performance Learning Environment improvements.  View video clips from Kansas Education Leaders on how they have conquered recent challenges.

The Lee's Summit R-7 School District and Trane have joined forces to save money for local schools while reducing the district's energy usage.  Through the R-7 School District's performance contracting energy-saving effort, the R-7 School District is completing a variety of projects this summer and into the 2010-11 school year.  On July 8, a number of rooftop Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units were replaced at a total of six Lee's Summit schools.  In all, the program includes energy-efficient improvement at a total of 14 buildings this year.  Click here to read more about the project.

Energy Performance Contracting Webinar

On Monday, June 28th, representatives from the University of Central Missouri (UCMO) and the Clinton Climate Inititative (CCI) partnered to present a webinar on Energy Performance Contracting: Economic and Environmental Benefits at the University of Central Missouri.  The University of Central Missouri shared their experience participating in an Energy Performance Contract, the preliminary environmental and economic results of their project, and how they integrated student involvement and learning into the development of the project.  CCI's Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program utilizes Energy Performance Contracting as one vehicle for implementation of campus retrofits and has worked with education institutions (including UCMO) around the world on large-scale Energy Performance Contracts.  The webinar is moderated by Arah Schuur, Director CCI Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program.  Panelists include Dr. Betty J. Roberts, VP Administration and Finance UCMO; Manuel Abarca, Student Sustainability Coordinator UCMO; and Nicholas McDaniels, Student Sustainability Coordinator UCMO.  Click here to view the webinar.
